,Re: SQL Server Compact Edition RC1 Released

Dear Community,

The SQL Server Compact Edition RC1 has been released and is now available at download center http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=85E0C3CE-3FA1-453A-8CE9-AF6CA20946C3&displaylang=en

Please note that the RC1 page link is the same as CTP page link, we have updated it for RC1. This doesn’t have ClickOnce files (Zip file) as the same is available with Tools for VS 2005 sp1 beta at download center at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=61289b5d-af86-45dd-8962-e7dcc5221796&displaylang=en

We have blogged about it at http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlservereverywhere/ .

Please check out the RC1 bits.

Thanks

Sachin, Program Manager, SQL Server CE Team

I have downloaded the tools quoted by your link:

'Please note that the RC1 page link is the same as CTP page link, we have updated it for RC1. But when i run it i get:

'the upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing

or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer

and you have the correct upgrade patch'

I have Visual Studio 2005 and had this working for some time now.

What does this mean ?

Help !!!

ps. I successfully installed SQL Compact edition first

Thanks for your reply.

I have just today installed SP1. In my about box in the list of installed products, it shows:

Microsoft Visual Studio Professional Edition - ENU Service Pack 1 (VB918525)

At the top, the version shows:

Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 - 8.0.50727.363 (SP.050727-3600)

Microsoft .net framework version 2.0.50727)

Can you help further please ?

Many Thanks

Chris Anderson

|||Chris,

1. Install VS2005
2. Install VS2005 SP1 Beta
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8d702463-674b-4978-9e22-c989130f6553&DisplayLang=en
3. Install SQL Server Ce
4. Install SQL Server CE tools

Then you can open up a project and add a .sdf file (say Northwind) when the Data Source Configuration Wizard will auto start.

Brian,

Many thanks for your reply.

Sorry to bother you but I am still having problems.

I uninstalled everything back to VS2005 (didnt uninstall VS2005)

then i followed your list and i am still getting the error message. I rebooted after the installs.

|||Chris - I am aka Phoenix.

Suggest we continue with this thread rather than the one on VBUG

Brian|||

Brian,

Ahh! thanks for your reply, will do. Any ideas at all? - i could uninstall VS2005 and start the whole process all over again

if you think that is beneficial.

Chris

|||I have no better suggestion I am afraid - I connot make go wrong on my PC Perhaps someone else has met this and got a work around?

After the uninstall/install of VS2005 I would be inclined to run Microsoft Update to get the latest pathes and then add SP1|||

Brian,

Many thanks for your time, i think i will uninstall everything inc VS2005 and start again, then i can see where im going.

Thanks

Chris
