.sql attachments will not open

Hi,
I have developed a web app where documents may be uploaded onto a server, and then opened of downloaded from the server by the users. Every type of file can be opened and downloaded apart from .sql. The main types of files that are uploaded are .txt, .dox, .pdf, .xls and .psd (photoshop), they all work apart from .sql
just wondering does somthing different have to be done for .sql files?

the uploading is working, it is not that the file doesnt exist on the server

Regards,
Frank

Its depends upon the client folder/file settings. You can't control from the Server.

If you need more information you can post this Q on ASP.NET forum.

.Net Framework for SSRS 2005

Hi,

We are plannning to upgrade to SSRS 2005 from SSRS 2000.

Does it mean that our clients/users will have to upgrade to framework 2.0 from framework 1.1 inorder to see the SSRS Reports ?

Thanks in advance !

siaj

Only the report server installation requires .NET 2.0.

If your users also want to use the new ReportBuilder in SSRS 2005, they will need to have .NET 2.0 installed on their local machines. If it is not installed, trying to use ReportBuilder for the first time will provide a notification about the missing .NET Framework 2.0 and ask if the runtime should be downloaded and installed.

No, as long as you use the webbased report functionality only you just need a (IE) browser to use reporting services without any problems.

siajNo. This is a server side issue only. RS is an asp.net 2.0 application so
IIS will be upgraded to use 2.0 framework. If you have other websites on IIS
you will want to specify (if they are 1.1 asp.net application) that they use
1.1 instead of 2.0. If the only app running on the website is RS then the
upgrade handles everything.

.Net App Deployment Scenario: Privileges for Non-Admin Users

My VB.net application manipulates data in a local SQL Express database. When the app is installed, the database does not exist, but it cannot be created at run-time by anyone other than a user with administrator privileges. In addition, the application shares the data stored in SQL with a critical 3rd party component that can only reach the database via named DSN (also not existing prior to installation).

I see my primary SQL security options as being:

(1) Use SQL or Mixed Mode authentication with an admin-level username/password combination, or

(2) Create a db user/group with admin-level privileges and grant membership to all NT authenticated users

Secondary problem: Creating the DSN.

Does it make sense to create a Custom Action (.dll) that is called at the end of the installation process in order to create the database, the user security context and the named DSN?

Am I overlooking some built-in functionality provided by Visual Studio 2005 that will accompish some or all of this for me? I am aware that customizing the 'silent' installation of SQL Express to use a different authentication mode requires manifest tweaking -- I just don't know anything about setting up the appropriate security for this situation. Would you put the db and role creation stuff in a SQL script and execute it post-install?

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.

-T

UPDATE

I plan to modify the SQL Express installation to use mixed-mode authentication, then execute code at the tail end of my app install to (a) create the database, (b) create a dbo-level user (and pwd) for the database, and (c) create my DSN (via SQLConfigDataSource API call).

Feel free to respond if you think/know that there is a better solution.

**login problem**

Hi
I am working with SQL 2000 and I have a resotred database with these users
in branch of its users :
DB1
user login
-- --
dbo X
L1L1
L2L2
but in other databases I have the following list:
DB2
user login
-- --
dbo sa
XX
L1L1
L2L2
I always create login names and user names with the same name, so in
related databases they will appear like above and a row of (dbo,sa) which
is default in each database.now I want to change the list of my first
database in order to be similar like the second list. how does it
possible? in other word, how can I have the row of (dbo,X) in 2 rows of
(dbo,sa) , (X,X)?
Thank you in advance.

**Deny**

Hi
I am working with SQL 2000 and I want to prevent some users of some
editing action and I could successfully do it by following statement,
DENY SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE
ON authors
TO Mary, John, Tom
Now, I want to know how can I automatically deny some new tables or views
which will be created after the time I performed Deny command. Mary, John,
Tom are all db_owner and automatically will be granted to all actions when
a new table created, but I want to perform above command automatically for
each new table which begins with 'au', How is it possible?
I would be grateful if you help me.Hi
If those users are not members of dbo_owner database role so they would not
have an access to the new object created as dbo or other user

usually done when permissions are inherited via role membership. However,
db_owner is a special role that allows members to have the same permissions
as the object owner. Since permissions are not checked for object owners,
GRANT and DENY have no affect on db_owner role members.
The bottom line is that Mary, John and Tom should not be db_owner role
members if you need to restrict their permissions in the database.
Hope this helps.

role, they could just grant the rights back to themselves!

(Single) Subscription and security filtering

Hi,
I have a report (created in Report Builder) which has a security
filter in it (based on userid). I would like to be able to have users
subscribe to it and get only the data they ought to see. However,
since I have to save the credentials in order to render the report
automatically (in subscription) - security filtering doesn't work
right, because the users' credentials aren't use.
Is there any way I can make this work?
Thanks in advance,
R. GreenAnyone please?
