Replication timeout
I changed the 'sa' password and after that I got the following errors in the subscription job history:
1-Connecting to Subscriber 'SAONT045\REPORT'
2-Login failed for user 'sa'.
3-The process could not connect to Subscriber 'SAONT045\REPORT'. The step failed.
4-The job failed. The Job was invoked by User sa. The last step to run was step 1 (Run agent.).
What can I do??
Are there anything that I can do to solve that problem without recreate the replication again?
Thanks in advance
Manuel Rodriguesthis is just a hunch but is the sa password the same on both the publisher and subscriber.|||Sounds like you need to check security settings on the Distribution agent. I usually set it to impersonate using Windows authentication, since both SQLAgent services are running under the same Windows account (easier to maintain).|||Make sure the credentials used by SQL serer agent successfully logs into subscriber

Compact 3.5 SP1 "LoadProperties()" Thows Exception
I have SQL Server 2008 (Nov. CTP) as a publisher and a SQL Server Compact
3.5 SP1 as a client for merge replication.
The Compact database has two subscriptions. The synchronization worked
perfectly many times. If I look at the Compact database in Management Studio
I can see my subscriptions in the Replication folder.
Everything looked so promising.....until I added a call to
"SqlCeReplication.LoadProperties()". At this point I see an error that simply
says, "Unhandled Exception: The subscription could not be loaded because it
was not saved.".
In doing some research it turns out this is error:
SSCE_M_SUBSCRIPTIOWASNOTSAVED
described here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms172898.aspx
The web page indicates:
"If the error appears again, you should immediately contact Microsoft
Product Support Services. The internal errors cannot be resolved by common
troubleshooting techniques."
Which is why I am posting here. Hopefully someone from Microsoft can
respond. The relevant code is listed here:
SqlCeReplication repl = new SqlCeReplication();
repl.Publisher = @."AOS-LAPASO-4\AOS_1";
repl.PublisherDatabase = @."RepTest";
repl.SubscriberConnectionString = @."Data Source=""C:\test.sdf"";Max Database
Size=128;Default Lock Escalation =100;";
repl.Publication = @."TestPub";
Console.WriteLine("LoadProperties: " + repl.LoadProperties());
Thanks very much.

/3GB with 3.7GB RAM?
SQL Server 2000 Ent.Ed. is running on Windows 2000 Adv. Server.
It's a dedicated sql server; no clustering and no replication.
I would like to increase max memory of sql server process by leaving 1GB for
kernal/OS.
If I use /3GB and set "max server memory" to 2.7GB, will OS be able to have
1GB or 3.7GB - 3GB = 7MB ?
Thanks,
Ada

How much memory does the server have?
Why would you think that changing a memory from a default will be
beneficial?

I read those articles after they published. I just wanted what my
understanding to be confirmed. Otherwise I need to make the change and run
sy.mon. t make sure. It's not easy to do it on a prod box.
If I use /3GB and set "max server memory" to 2.7GB, will OS be able to have
1GB or 3.7GB - 3GB = 700MB ?
My understanding is that it will be limited to 700MB, and 0.3GB on user-mode
will be wasted. All I need is a Yes or No.
Thanks,
Ada

I read those articles after they published. I just wanted what my
understanding to be confirmed. Otherwise I need to make the change and run
sy.mon. t make sure. It's not easy to do it on a prod box.
If I use /3GB and set "max server memory" to 2.7GB, will OS be able to have
1GB or 3.7GB - 3GB = 700MB ?
My understanding is that it will be limited to 700MB, and 0.3GB on user-mode
will be wasted. All I need is a Yes or No.
Thanks,

|||It's obvious how NT partitions memory when you have <=2GB or >=4GB but what
about 3.75GB
If the /3GB switch is used with 3.75GB does this mean:
NT gets 0.75GB and applications get 3.0GB
or
NT gets 1.00GB and applications get 2.75GB

I guess

.Net framework 1.0, SQL ce 2.0 and Windows mobile 5.0 work together?
Hi,
Does anyone know if I have created a replication using SQL Server 2000 (sp3a), .Netframework 1.0 with Pocket pc Sql Server CE 2.0 will work or not in pocket pc windows mobile 5.0 environment (with the .netframework for pocket pc(netcf.core.ppc3.arm.cab) and sql ce file (sqlce.ppc3.arm.CAB) installed in pocket pc)?
I have it working in pocket pc Windows mobile 2003 version. But, after I tried to install the exact same cab files and system into Windows mobile 5.0, the replication fail.
Anyone has any idea?
Hi AngelaC,
Same CABs do not work for both PPC 2003 and PPC 2005.
SQL CE 2.0 Cabs for PPC 2005 are shipped with VS 2005.
Also, SQL Mobile 3.0 is already relased and I am still wondering why you are not upgrading to this version when making a move to PPC 2005.
Thanks,
Laxmi Narsimha Rao ORUGANTI, SQL Ev, Microsoft Corporation
|||Thanks Laxmi,
I will try to give it a try with SQL CE 2.0 Cabs from VS 2005 and let everyone knows if it works.
The reason I am not using SQL Mobile 3.0 is that the program has already been used in production for a year, I guess we won't modify it unless is necessary.
|||Hi Laxmi,
I have installed VS5.0 and don't know which CAB to install. Following is my current environment that is working in production:
SQL Server 2000 with sp3a
Program in VS 2003 with .Net framework 1.0
For mobile: in Windows mobile 2003, installed "sqlce.ppc3.arm.cab" and "netcf.core.ppc3.arm.cab".
My question is which cab files (for both framework and sql ce) in VS2005 should I install in Windows mobile 5.0 to replace the 2 cab files I installed in Windows mobile 2003?
Thanks

.net and Sql Express
I havn't use replication with express yet, but yu might want to install the sqlnative client onto the client machines. You can get this download from the microsoft downloads site.
|||This particular dll seems to be part of the sdk kit of sql server 2005.
directory 90\SDK\Assemblies
The sql native client did not help. I installed it and still no avail.
How would one deploy the sdk kit files
Cheers
|||Hi Robert,
I'm not clear on why you would want to run your service on a computer that doesn't have SQL Express installed, could you explian? Replication is about communication between two SQL Servers, without a SQL Server, what exactly are you synchronizing?
Thanks for the further detail.

|||hi,
Mike already pointed out there's no real sens in doing what you are trying to do...
are you perhaps trying something already built-in, like Query Notifications? http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnvs05/html/querynotification.asp, http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/t9x04ed2.aspx

|||I am trying to have one machine that replicates to a internet based server. This one machine is on our local lan. Other users can log into our program which then connects to the local "lan" sql express. Once all work is done, a "On Demand " sync is done. I wrote the dll to perform this on demand sync.I don't want sql express installed on all 10 machines but rather on one lan machine that everyone can use.
Problem is that the dll needs the sql replication dll to function. A machine without sql express installed cannot ask for the sync via the dll.It generates an error
I have tried to include the sql replication dll in my install but it still does not want to work.I think I am registering it wrong.If I install sql express then the dll works.
(I am using VS 2005 .net setup to deploy the project dll.). This is something I am trying to avoid.
At the moment the way it has to work is that everybody does their changes and then requests a sync update from the user, who has the sql express installed, to update the replication.Quite tiresome.

|||Robert you answer lies in the application distribution. So this thread should probably be moved to Coding forum.
But anyway. I think your answer lies in remoting, using a multi-tier application.
We have a similar setup where sql exp is used as a server for two or more client applications. You will need to create Data class that run on the machine where SQL Express is installed and then use .Net Remoting from your client machines to invoke the Data class. This centralised data class will be the one that instantiates the SQL replication dll and thus it will call it from it's local machine (The Data Server). For this purpose the data server is just the machine where SQL exp is installed.
There fore the clients need know nothing about SQL Replication only that they create the remoting object and instruct the data class on the server to do the work. Hence they don't need SQL Express installed on every machine.
If you are not familiar with remoting then you will need to do quite a bit of reading up as there can be pitfalls and it may require you application to be restructured completely.
Hope this points you to your answer

Just a few question.
Why does the dll not work on its own.
Can I not simply distribute the dll.
I suppose the dll does not contain all the libary files from SQL to invoke the calls made to sql express.
Thanks anyway for the answer.

'.bcp file is corrupt' with dynamic snapshots
I have merge replication set up between sql mobile and sql 2005 (just recently upgraded from sql 2000). My publication has around 40 published tables, about half of them are filtered. The other day I noticed that the initial replication to get the entire database was downloading the same tables multiple times. The last test was each table was downloaded 10 times. So I did some research which brought me to the following fix, which was to implement dynamic snapshots.
However, when I try to replicate, it generates a dynamic snapshot, but it fails with the following error…
An error occurred while reading the .bcp data file for the 'MSmerge_rowtrack' article. If the .bcp file is corrupt, you must regenerate the snapshot before initializing the Subscriber.(Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL-2147199428)
I haven’t changed the snapshot locations, and if I don’t use dynamic snapshots it works fine. I’ve tweaked the permissions (in development) to the point where everyone has full permission on the IIS share, and snapshot folder with no luck.
I would appreciate any advice. Thank you!
Not sure if you'll find an answer here.I've been a part of this thread
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=100529&SiteID=1&PageID=0
without any real resolution so far.
We can re-run the snapshot when it happens and that seems to resolve it for the user who is affected, but if it's a permissoins problem why doesn;t it happen to everyone at once?

(REPLICATION) - Starting synchronization from stored procedure
How can I activate a replication from my own stored procedure and
synchronize subscribers with my merge publication?
I have created and configured everything and just need to start
synchronization from an stored procedure(on demand) instead of scheduling
the merge agent.
Thanks in advance.
AminAmin,
if you want manual synchronization, then the windows synchronization manger
may be used.
If you want it to be set off programmatically from TSQL, then sp_start_job
can be used with the merge agent's job.
If you want programmatic initialization from a program then the Merge
ActiveX control or SQLDMO can be used.
